PINEVILLE, La. — Cleco restored power to 8,546 customers after Tropical Storm Arthur left 12,647 without electricity, the utility company announced.
As of 3 p.m. Thursday, approximately 1,500 people in Avoyelles Parish and 2,500 in St. Tammany Parish remained without power. The utility company noted these two parishes were the hardest hit.
"Some of the towns we serve in Avoyelles are experiencing significant flooding. In some areas, restoration efforts cannot begin until the floodwaters recede," Clint Robichaux, Cleco director of distribution operations and reliability, said.
Arthur swept through south Louisiana and Mississippi Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Confirmed tornadoes hit Houma, Avondale, and Bridge City, while other regions suffered severe wind damage and flooding.Â
