SHREVEPORT, La. — City officials are scrambling to complete concrete work at Southern Hills Pool after ongoing construction delays derailed its planned opening.
Contractors have struggled to secure concrete truck deliveries because of competing infrastructure projects across the city. Once the final concrete pours and plastering are complete, workers will fill the pool and prepare it for operations.
City officials are encouraging residents to use other public pools while work finishes at Southern Hills. However, most city pools are scheduled to close for general swimming after this weekend because of an anticipated lifeguard shortage.
Airport Park Pool will remain open for senior aerobics classes through Labor Day weekend.
If Southern Hills Pool is filled while warm weather continues, the city may offer limited weekend swimming hours. Lifeguards from closed facilities will be reassigned to staff Southern Hills once it opens.
