SHREVEPORT, La. - Vandero Scott battles heat and exhaustion as a public works worker for Shreveport.
For 21 years, Scott has maintained Shreveport's roads, fixing potholes wherever possible, thanks to citizen reports.
"Yeah, this is what we do every day," said Scott. "We try to stay cool. Don't get too overheated out here. Take your time right now because it's so hot. Drunk a lot of water."
KTBS is highlighting the work of Scott and other pothole fillers with our Pothole Patrol segment. Thanks to viewers, KTBS highlights potholes that exist throughout Shreveport and alerts the city to fix them in a timely manner.
The logistics of pothole repair vary drastically depending on the location. On quieter side streets, a quick stop and a single traffic cone are enough to secure the site and patch the pothole. Main thoroughfares present a steeper safety challenge.
"On the main street, you can't just pull over anywhere because you have to barricade people behind you," Scott said.
Despite the heavy demands of street maintenance, Scott says he's available to help.
"I do everything. If anybody needs me, I try to get them a helping hand."
