MISSOULA, Mont. – Fire officials in Missoula County raised fire danger from high to very high due to dry conditions, high winds, and consistent hot temperatures on July 30.
With the fire danger elevated, fires readily spread in open, dry grasslands and can burn in heavy timber, and dead, downed trees. Windy days increase the probability of fire.
Fire officials asked residents and visitors to use caution when using fire.
Campfires should be small and completely extinguished before leaving camp. General outdoor burning remains closed, and there are no current fire restrictions in Missoula County.
“With this change in fire danger, we’re asking for the public to be aware and vigilant to these changing conditions and to use extreme caution to prevent fire starts,” Adriane Beck, Director and DES Coordinator with the MIssoula County Office of Emergency Management advised.
As hot, dry conditions persist, fire officials will remain vigilant.
