As someone who had never been to a rodeo before, my jaw kept dropping from the first 10 minutes I sat in the arena at Billings' MontanaFair last Friday.

The competition kicked off with one of its strongest visual scenes — bareback bronc riding, in which contestants try to stay on their crazy, hysterical horses for eight seconds. As a chestnut-brown horse kicked with great vigor like there was a piping-hot potato on its back, the cowboy's hat was immediately knocked off. Dust swirled in the air, leaving the horse's mane and every part of the rider’s outfit swaying in the wind.
