Billings police have identified a second teenage suspect apprehended in the fallout of the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy.
The Billings Police Department announced the arrest on August 1, 2026, via social media. Police apprehended the teen, also 14 years old, on suspicion of assault with a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm. Last week, a Billings teenager pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide, with prosecutors accusing him of unintentionally shooting and killing Monico Lee Osgood.
Late on the night of July 19, BPD officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence at the 800 block of Howard Avenue. At the residence, officers located Monico suffering from a gunshot wound. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Just a little over two years ago, Monico’s father, Eric Osgood, died in a motorcycle crash in Billings.
On July 23, police apprehended the 14-year-old suspected of shooting Monico. The suspect briefly left juvenile detention to appear before Judge Ashley Harada. The boy's mother was also present for the hearing, appearing in court via teleconference. That hearing concluded with Harada setting the boy’s bond at $100,000 and ordering him to remain under house arrest, should he make bail. Last week, the boy pleaded not guilty to negligent homicide.
Both suspects are currently in with Yellowstone County Youth Services. Hearings held at a later date will determine whether their cases will continue with Youth Services, or be transferred to Yellowstone County District Court.
Across the state, homicides have trended downward since peaking in 2020, according to data from the Montana Board of Crime Control. From 2016 through 2025, the Montana BCC tracked 427 people killed across the state, about a quarter of whom were 23 years old and younger.Â
