The Texas Education Agency has released its annual evaluations of school and district performances across the state, and school districts all across San Patricio County emerged with strong positive results.
On Aug. 14, the TEA released the 2025-2026 A-F Accountability Ratings for 1,202 public school systems and 9,105 campuses across the state. The results were largely positive across San Patricio County, with several districts experiencing year-over-year improvement in their scores.
TEA said the 85th Texas Legislature established the A-F Accountability System through House Bill (HB) 22 to provide clear and consistent information on how schools are performing in three key areas: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps.
Four local school districts saw year-over-year improvements in district scores. Below is a rundown of local school district performance:
Gregory-Portland ISD
G-PISD had another strong year, scoring 86 out of 100 for a strong “B” rating from the TEA - up from an 82 out of 100 in 2024-2025. G-PISD earned a “B” rating in Student Achievement (83 out of 100) as well as School Progress (85) and Closing the Gaps (88) according to the TEA.
Gregory-Portland High School earned a “B” rating with an overall score of 89 and one distinction, representing a 14-point increase since 2024. Meanwhile, G-P Middle School earned a “B” with an overall score of 87 and two distinctions, a 5-point increase since 2024. W.C. Andrews Elementary also received a “B” with an overall score of 87 - representing a 13-point increase since 2024 - and all six distinctions.
“The growth we have seen at Gregory-Portland High School, Gregory-Portland Middle School, and W.C. Andrews Elementary reflects the intentional work taking place across our campuses,” G-PISD Superintendent Michelle Cavazos said. “Our focus now is to build on that success by identifying the strategies and practices that are making the greatest impact and replicating them across our district. When we learn from one another and remain focused on continuous improvement, all of our students benefit.”
East Cliff Elementary receiving a “B” rating with an 87 out of 100, while T.M. Clark had an 84 out of 100 for its own “B” rating and S.F. Austin Elementary earned a “C” rating with a 77 out of 100.
All told, the district said the scores represent a continued uptick in performance.
“As a district, we are focused on growth for every student, and these results demonstrate the progress taking place across G-PISD,” Cavazos said. “We are proud of how far we have come, but our work continues. We will build on what is working and remain focused on continued growth for every student.”
Mathis ISD
Mathis was another area school district seeing an increased rating, improving from a “C” rating (79 out of 100) last year to a “B” rating for 2025-2026 by scoring an 81 out of 100. The district’s score has risen from 75 in 2022-2023 to the current rating.
Mathis High School received the highest rating in the district with an “A” rating (92 out of 100), according to TEA. Mathis Middle School earned a “C” by scoring 72 out of 100, while Maths Intermediate/Mathis Elementary (77 out of 100) also received a “C.”
The district scored a 76 out of 100 for a “C” rating in Student Achievement - up from a 72 last year. The same happened with School Progress, rising from a “C” (79 out of 100) in 2024-2025 to a “B” rating (82 out of 100) this year. However, there was a slight dip in Closing the Gaps, with its score dropping from an 80 to a 79.
Odem-Edroy ISD
OEISD stayed the same year-over-year, coming in with another strong “B” rating with an overall score of 82 out of 100 according to the TEA. The district earned a “C” rating (78 out of 100) in Student Achievement, and “B” ratings in both School Progress (83 out of 100) and Closing the Gaps (81 out of 100).
Odem High School was the highest-rated school in the district with an overall score of 88 out of 100 for a “B.” Odem Elementary and Odem Intermediate/Odem Junior High (79 out of 100) all received high “C” ratings.
Sinton ISD
Sinton was another district to show serious year-over-year gains earning a “B” by scoring 80 out of 100. That figure was a six-point increase from the “C” rating of 74 out of 100 last year.
Accordant to the TEA, Sinton ISD earned a “C” (76 out of 100) in Student Achievement well as a “B” in School Progress (80 out of 100) and Closing the Gaps (81 out of 100).
Sinton High School was the best-performing school in the district, with an overall score of 88 out of 100. Welder Elementary/Sinton Elementary received a high “C” rating with a score of 79, and Smith Middle School received a 74 out of 100.
Taft ISD
Taft ISD had one of the biggest year-over-year rises in San Patricio County, with the TEA giving the district a “C” rating with a score of 75 out of 100. It is a seven-point increase from the score of 68 that the district received for 2024-2025.
According to the TEA, Taft’s scores in Student Achievement (68 out of 100) elevated slightly from a score of 64 last year. The district also went from a “D” rating in to a “C” rating in both School Progress (76 out of 100) and Closing the Gaps (73 out of 100) compared to last year.
Taft High School had the highest rating in the district with a “B” rating of 83 out of 100. Trevino Junior High received a 71 out of 100 (up from 62 last year) with a “C” rating, and Petty Elementary received an overall score of 77 - a mark significantly up from the 59 it received in 2024-2025.
