Families, pets, and football fans had another reason to head to Edgewater Park Saturday as The Suburban and Tanguay’s annual Family and Pet Day delivered a full day of community activities to the Pointe-Claire waterfront.
The free event took place Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with activities and entertainment for residents of all ages — and their four-legged companions.
Among the afternoon’s special guests were two Montreal Alouettes players, with quarterback Davis Alexander and receiver Tyson Philpot on hand after 1 p.m. for fans in attendance at the event, where they were introduced by The Suburban sports editor, Mark Lidbetter. Both CFL stars signed autographs and took photos with adoring fans.Â
The Alouettes visit comes alongside the event’s broader lineup of family entertainment, activities, local vendors, and pet-focused attractions. Mayor John Belvedere was in attendance, and Mose Persico from CFQR 600 AM was there along with numerous city councillors. Musical performances by Shawny, bands from WIMA (West Island Music Academy), Daylite Vampires, and Rachel Dara kept the ambiance energetic and upbeat all day long.
Family and Pet Day has become a summer community fixture, bringing together local residents, businesses, organizations, and animal lovers. Previous editions have featured music, food, vendors, activities for children, and attractions geared toward pets.
This year’s location at Edgewater Park provided the lakefront setting for the festivities. The Pointe-Claire park, located along chemin du Bord-du-Lac-Lakeshore, includes shoreline access, bicycle racks, parking, and amenities for visitors arriving with dogs.
For families, the combination of entertainment, community activities, and a chance to meet professional football players made for a busy afternoon. For pet owners, the event offered an opportunity to bring their animals along and connect with other local pet lovers.
With the summer season winding down, Family & Pet Day offered West Islanders a chance to spend a Saturday outdoors, enjoy the waterfront and celebrate the community — with children, pets, and a couple of Alouettes stars all part of the lineup.
