(The Center Square) – On-time delivery of the mail by the U.S. Postal Service in North Carolina was among the worst in the nation in the second quarter, a report from the agency’s dashboard says.
North Carolina was No. 44, with on-time service percentage of 78.2%. That’s well below the target of 87% and the national norm of 84.1%.
Scoring worse were Virginia (74.9%), Maryland (76.1%), New Jersey (76.5%), Michigan 1 (76.9%), New York 1 (77%) and Minnesota-North Dakota (78.2%). There are 50 geographical postal districts nationwide. California 1 (95%), California 2 (94.2%), Hawaii (94.2%), Alaska (93.9%), and California 6 (93.7%) were the five best.
In the first quarter, North Carolina had been at 83.5%.
As of Wednesday morning, the dashboard put North Carolina at 88.1% thus far in the third quarter.
“This is an issue that I hear about on a regular basis from constituents across the 5th District, and I am equally as incensed,” said U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C. “I remain very focused on this issue and will not hesitate” to put fire to the feet of “those responsible for this breakdown.”
