WILSON, Okla. (KTEN) - The Wilson Eagles start a new era with head coach Ty Prestidge, coming off a 6-5 season with a trip to the postseason.
The Wilson Eagles went 6 and 5 last season losing in the first round of the playoffs… Now they’ve got a new head coach in charge coming over from Casady… and he’s been around the game for quite a while… Sports Reporter Aidan Tyler has the preview….
“I didn’t go a year without coaching. When I resigned, I went three months wishing I hadn’t resigned. Anyways, I got back into it and this is where I started in class A and other 2A schools. I thoroughly enjoy that and I am happy that I am finishing my career in this situation.”
That’s new Wilson Head Coach Ty Prestidge who is bringing over 50 years of coaching expertise to Wilson. Prestidge is very experienced, coaching at 6A schools like Westmoore and Mustang but also smaller schools like Plainview and Ringling. The coach may be new, but the goals for the Eagles remain the same.
“Honestly, just to improve together, kind of in that brotherhood just to be a team together and to be able to be the best we can be and improve as much as we can, especially for next year.”
“Well, we definitely want to qualify for the playoffs, you know, finish in the top four. We’d like to win the district and of course then you get to play the fourth place team in another district when you do that. Right now we just want to continue to get better and make it into the playoffs.”
And the Eagles are going to have a strong, physical identity when those Friday night lights start to shine.
“When I looked at the film on them before I got here they were so aggressive on defense and we hope to continue that. We’ve got some good sized linemen and two backs that have a lot of experience and hopefully that leads us here early in the season and we can gradually get to where we can throw the football a little bit.”
The Eagles open up their season on August 28th against Stratford.
