Woodward, Inc. WWD paired a third-quarter earnings beat with higher fiscal 2026 earnings guidance, confirming near-term demand across Aerospace and Industrial.
The bigger issue is whether capacity, service and productivity initiatives can extend that performance into fiscal 2027.
The setup is favorable but not clean. Pricing and China on-highway operations aided recent margins, while capital spending and working-capital needs remain elevated.
Woodward's Q3 Results Show Broad-Based Strength
Adjusted earnings increased 43.2% year over year to $2.52 per share and beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.4%.
Sales rose 21.2% to $1.11 billion. Higher volume and pricing helped adjusted EBITDA increase 50% to $249 million, although inflation, unfavorable mix and a higher tax rate offset part of the gain.

WWD Raised the Bar for Fiscal 2026
Management raised adjusted earnings guidance to $9.30-$9.50 per share from $9.15-$9.45. The company retained its 20%-23% sales-growth outlook and $300-$350 million free-cash-flow forecast.
Aerospace sales are expected to increase 21%-23% with a margin of about 23.5%. Industrial sales growth guidance moved to 19%-21%, while the segment margin outlook increased to about 19%.
Woodward's Segments Enter 2027 With Momentum
Aerospace sales grew 19% as commercial original equipment manufacturer sales advanced 34%, commercial services rose 24% and defense services increased 20%. Industrial sales climbed 26% on marine transportation, data-center power and oil and gas demand.
Several power-generation customers have raised forecasts for fiscal 2027, fiscal 2028 and into the early 2030s. Woodward may need more capacity if those demand cases hold.

WWD's Margin Quality Needs a Closer Look
Aerospace margin reached 24%, but a retroactive contract pricing adjustment contributed about 100 basis points. China on-highway operations added roughly 90 basis points to Industrial's 22.1% margin.
Companywide pricing is expected to normalize to 3%-5% after reaching about 8% for fiscal 2026. Future margin progress will depend more on volume, mix, lean manufacturing and automation.
WWD Is Investing To Sustain 2027 Demand
The Glatten expansion increased high-speed fuel-injection capacity by 50% and is already supporting power-generation demand. The project was completed on schedule and on budget without disrupting deliveries.
The Spartanburg facility is expected to become operational in 2027, with deliveries beginning the following year. Licensed LEAP repair partnerships and expanded service capacity should broaden aftermarket coverage and support future provisioning.
Woodward's 2027 Outlook Still Carries Risks
China on-highway generated $40 million of third-quarter sales, but Woodward expects little fourth-quarter revenue as the exit is completed. That step-down will make fiscal 2027 Industrial comparisons more difficult, while spare component demand can vary by quarter.
Free cash flow fell 12% to $87 million as capital expenditures more than doubled. Higher inventory, receivables and spending toward the roughly $290 million full-year capital plan could restrain cash conversion, while castings, forgings and rare earth materials remain supply-chain concerns.
WWD's Ratings Temper the Earnings Momentum
The bottom line is that Woodward has credible 2027 growth drivers, but the durability of margins and cash generation will matter as temporary benefits fade.
WWD currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), a VGM Score of C, a Growth Score of B, a Momentum Score of A and a Value Score of D. The Growth and Momentum scores recognize favorable operating and trend characteristics, while the Value Score and mixed VGM reading support a measured stance rather than a conclusive bullish call.
