TEXARKANA, Ark. — An Arkansas man will spend the next eight decades behind bars for his role in a fatal shooting that occurred two years ago.
The investigation began around 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 12, when Texarkana Arkansas Police Department officers rushed to the 2500 block of East 24th Street following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, police discovered 17-year-old Marious L. Bradley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. While police officers and Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department personnel attempted to save the teenager's life, Bradley ultimately died from his injuries.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene unit quickly took over the case. By gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and following up on leads, detectives eventually focused on 19-year-old Tyrese Jefferson as the prime suspect.
On July 13, a jury convicted Jefferson of Bradley's murder. A judge handed down a 40-year term for the murder charge alongside consecutive 20-year sentences for two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm. In total, Jefferson was ordered to serve an 80-year sentence within the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
Following the verdict, representatives with the Miller County Prosecutor’s Office praised the responding patrol officers and investigators for their meticulous work on the case. Prosecutors noted that the initial evidence collected at the scene, combined with skilled interrogation strategies, successfully secured a confession and a conviction in court.Â
