MOUNT VERNON, Virginia — KTBS and Collette are taking travelers on a journey through history as part of America 250 — visiting the places where the United States was born.

George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, sits along the Potomac River in Fairfax County, about 15 miles south of Washington, D.C. While Washington served as the nation's first president, the capital was located in New York and later Philadelphia.
