AUSTIN, Texas — Opposition to data centers is rapidly becoming one of Texas' most significant political issues ahead of November's general election, as a new statewide poll finds most Texans oppose building the facilities in their communities while neighboring Louisiana continues aggressively courting artificial intelligence investment.

The June 2026 University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll found 56% of Texans oppose building a data center in their community, while 29% support the idea.
