POLARIS, Mont. — Fire damage at Maverick Mountain will likely keep the ski area’s only chairlift out of service for the coming season.
In a Facebook post, Maverick Mountain said buildings in the base area were still standing, along with its snowcats and other equipment. The ski area also thanked firefighters and crews working on the Sand Creek Fire.
The mountain said it expected to share more information after smoke cleared and a fuller damage assessment could happen. It also said rebuilding efforts were already being considered.
Maverick Mountain described the ski area as a gathering place for families, locals and visitors, and said it planned to stay committed to the community and its passholders as it works through what comes next.
The post also made clear that the mountain may look different in the future, even as the ski area moves ahead with rebuilding. Maverick Mountain said people who want to donate should wait for a later update.Â
