A Lolo man was sentenced to five years of probation Thursday for threatening a group of anglers with a gun last year near the Clark Fork River west of Missoula.
Jordan Buyce was sentenced for one charge of felony assault with a weapon and one charge of misdemeanor DUI before Judge John Larson in Missoula County District Court. Buyce pleaded guilty to these charges in April.
According to charging documents, on June 15, 2025, Missoula County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the area of Deep Creek Road and Big Flat Road for reports that a man had fired shots at a group of anglers.
The anglers reported that they were approached by an erratic man who began kicking their fishing net. When they told him to go away, he returned to his truck and yelled, "If you don't know who I am, you're about to find out" before producing a shotgun and firing rounds into the air and into a bush, according to charging documents.Â
The anglers reported fearing for their lives, according to charging documents. One of the anglers stated the man stood between them and the only easy way to escape.
Buyce was soon pulled over nearby, as his car matched descriptions of the shooter's vehicle. Buyce admitted to firing his gun into a bush but said he hadn't pointed it at anyone. He appeared intoxicated, and a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.133, above the legal driving limit of 0.08.Â
Buyce's plea agreement also included charges for an incident on Sept. 12, 2025, where he threatened a woman with a knife. His sentencing for that assault is set for June 30, and the plea agreement recommends a five-year probation sentence. It will be up to the judge for that charge, Jason Marks, to decide if these sentences run consecutively or concurrently.Â
