More than 50 animals seized in suspected neglect case in northwest Montana

After an investigation, a search warrant was served at the property on July 17 by the sheriff's office, U.S. Border Patrol agents and the Eureka Police Department.

"The property was documented and multiple animals were seized including 40 dogs consisting of Pomeranians, Huskies and mixed breeds," the press release said. "Also seized were 2 ponies, 2 chickens, 2 rabbits, 1 goat and 4 cats."

Two days later, the Lincoln County Animal Shelter posted an update about taking in many animals.

"We're happy to share that all of the livestock seized on Friday has been safely relocated to a wonderful property where they are receiving excellent care," the shelter posted. "Additionally, 13 of the dogs have been transferred to Tobacco Valley Animal Shelter."

They said they are accepting adoption applications for some cats and kittens, along with some dogs.

Other older husky dogs and pups need time to "decompress and adjust" before they're ready for adoption, the shelter said.

Marcia Boris, the Lincoln County Attorney, said her office has not yet received an investigative file from law enforcement.

"When that is received, it will be reviewed by our office and we will determine what, if any, charges may be appropriate," she said in an email to the Missoulian.

Earlier this summer, 87 animals were seized from a Corvallis property in Ravalli County, in a case of suspected animal abuse.
